In pursuit of its long-range objective to help preserve western Colorado's endangered archaeological resources, Dominquez Archeological Research Group is conducting a series of rock art studies in central and northwestern Colorado. These projects focus on previously unrecorded or insufficiently documented rock art sites. Recording methodology includes detailed field inspection, digital photography and image processing, graphic rendering of motifs, scale drawings of site plans and profiles, and geomorphological analysis for age estimation when possible. Interpretation of sites includes ethnographic analysis of motifs and consultation with Native American informants. A study of rock art panels in Leonards Basin and Palmer Gulch in Delta County was completed in July 2006. The report is available for download (link below). Principal Investigator: Carol Patterson, Ph.D.
